Dating me is like...
A crowd-favorite improv line game that you might *not* use at work
Those who know me are aware of my obsession with fashion (and that I am also the owner of an American Made suspenders brand). I am a lifelong sneaker-collector and purveyor of quality clothing.
This is why I was excited when I saw the opportunity to work with today’s sponsor. I don’t own anything from Brunt (yet), but I am grateful to have a chance to help spread the word about cool consumer brands. If you ever need a recommendation for something, my inbox is open.
Now it’s game time…
Do you remember the newsletter that explained the line game ‘Back in my day…’?
No?
Then you probably don’t remember line games.
Here’s a brief refresher:
Line games are a genre of improv exercise that involve players quickly creating punchlines to short jokes. It epitomizes the ‘one-liner’ you often see in media.
Simple game = quick fun.
There are tons of formats for line games. One favorite is: Dating me is like…
Goal
Build quick- & reactive- thinking to loosen up your mental muscles
How to Play
Dating me is like (word) because (punchline)
In this game, you will take turns completing the phrase "Dating me is like..." by comparing your dating life to various objects, experiences, or situations.
As usual, there are no wrong answers—just opportunities to surprise others!
Key to success: Everything you doesn’t have to be true. These are jokes, which are often exaggerations or lies.
Examples
“Dating me is like a Netflix subscription, you’ll enjoy it until I start recommending things you hate.”
“Dating me is like Starbucks, over time the cost starts to add up.”
“Dating me is like going on a road trip, there are constant detours that will require patience.”
Appropriate for✅ Friends, co-workers (that you’re close with) | 🕰️ Time to play5 minutes, but you can go on awhile! | 👨👩👦 Group sizeBest for: 2+ people |
Try it out…
Next time you're with a group (or even on a Zoom call), throw out a few "Dating me is like..." prompts and watch the ideas start flowing.
If you have a serious presentation, try playing this game with a friend/colleague before. It will subdue all your racing thoughts and help bring you to the present.
Note: There is inappropriate version to play this line game too. I’ll let you figure that out.
